Lewis Hamilton has spoken out following a tense Miami Grand Prix that saw him frustrated with Ferrari’s race strategy — particularly during a moment when he felt stuck behind teammate Charles Leclerc despite having better pace.
The 40-year-old expressed his anger over the team radio, saying his tires were overheating while waiting for a decision to let him pass. Although he eventually overtook Leclerc, Ferrari later asked him to give the position back. In the end, Leclerc finished seventh with Hamilton just behind in eighth.
When asked about his heated radio messages to his race engineer Riccardo Adami, Hamilton explained that it was just the heat of the moment.
“I lost time behind Charles and was just thinking, ‘Come on, let’s decide faster — we’re wasting time,’” Hamilton said. “Some people may not like what I said, but you have to understand, it’s frustrating.”
He also shared that he spoke with team boss Fred Vasseur after the race.
“I put my hand on his shoulder and told him, ‘Calm down, don’t take it so personally,’” Hamilton added. “I could’ve said way worse things. Some of it was just sarcasm.”
Hamilton emphasized that emotions run high during races and that intense radio messages are normal under pressure.
With his eighth-place finish, Hamilton now has 41 points in the standings, trailing Leclerc by 12 and series leader Oscar Piastri by 90. F1 continues in two weeks at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.
