Scottie Scheffler recovered from hitting a horror shank in the greenside bunker on the 3rd to shoot an opening 2-under 69 at the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler, 27, is teeing it up at Harbour Town Golf Links this week off the back of landing a second Masters title in the last three years.

The runaway World No.1 and FedEx Cup leader has won three times so far this season.

But despite his recent red-hot form, Scheffler proved he is human after all as he struck one of the worst bunker shots of his career on 3.

Scheffler began brightly with an up-and-down birdie at the par-5 2nd, but then it all went wrong on the next hole.

The nine-time PGA Tour winner found the greenside bunker short right and then proceeded to shank his bunker shot.

Scheffler chipped up from there to five feet but then missed the bogey putt to record a disastrous double-bogey six.

But one of Scheffler’s biggest strengths is his ability to bounce back, and that’s exactly what he did in round one at the RBC Heritage.

Scheffler birdied the tricky par-3 7th to get back to level par, and despite missing a number of golden birdie chances around the turn, he made consecutive birdies from five feet on 16 and 15 feet on 17 to post a 2-under 69.

If Scheffler is to land a fourth PGA Tour title in his last five starts he will need to get a wriggle on though.

That’s because his compatriot JT Poston has already pushed it to 8-under par.

Scheffler remains on baby watch as his wife Meredith is expecting their first child.

The due date is said to be end of the month.
