After George Russell and Lando Norris received penalties at the United States Grand Prix, and Max Verstappen didn’t, Toto Wolff says he is “not surprised” by “a bit biased decision-making”.

At the start of the United States Grand Prix, Max Verstappen forced Lando Norris wide at Turn 1, but he escaped any sanctions from the stewards.

Later in the race, however, George Russell received a five-second penalty for forcing Valtteri Bottas off the track at Turn 12.

When the team informed George of the penalty, the Briton asked in astonishment: “What?”

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff then came on the radio and said: “Total joke, George, with the penalty, total joke.”

Later while Verstappen and Norris were battling over third place, Max pushed Lando wide, they both went off the track, and Lando ultimately returned ahead.

The stewards, however, penalized Lando for gaining an advantage by overtaking Max outside track limits.

At the end of the race, George asked his team if Verstappen got penalised for forcing Norris off at the start of the race.

Toto answered, and called out the FIA for “a bit biased decision-making”.

“No he didn’t get a penalty,” the Austrian said.

“And at the end Lando got a penalty for being forced off and overtaking on the outside.

“I guess it’s a bit biased decision-making but, you know, not surprised,” Wolff concluded
