Tiger Woods revealed he does not plan to give in after missing another cut in a major at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2.
Tiger Woods confirmed he may have played his final US Open after missing the cut at the 2024 edition at Pinehurst No.2.
Woods began the second round of the third men’s major of the year with it all to do after opening the championship with a 74.
He started well, making three consecutive pars before converting a 16-foot birdie putt at the fourth.
Woods immediately dropped a shot at the par-5 fifth and let another one go after making a complete hash of the ninth.
His golf ball came back to his feet when he tried to pitch onto the green after missing the putting surface long.
Woods toiled on the back nine, missing glorious opportunities at the 13th, 14th and 15th after making bogey at the difficult par-4 12th.
His hopes were dashed after he walked off the par-4 16th following a mightily unlucky iron approach that trickled off the green that he followed with a lazy putt.
“Well, it was probably the highest score I could have possibly shot today,” Woods told reporters.
“I hit a lot of good shots that just didn’t quite go my way, or I hit good putts, and then I put myself in a couple bad spots with some bad lag putts.
“But again, as I said, it was probably the highest score I could have shot today.”
Woods confirmed that he’ll only play one more tournament this season at next month’s Open at Royal Troon.
“I don’t think even if I win the British Open I don’t think I’ll be in the playoffs,” he said.
“Just one more event and then I’ll come back whenever I come back.”
Woods said he felt he played well enough to be in contention this week.
“It just didn’t work out,” he said.
Then he dropped the bombshell.
“As far as my last Open Championship or U.S. Open Championship, I don’t know what that is. It may or may not be.”
Woods was given a special exemption by the USGA to play this week.

Asked to sum up his week, Woods had one word.
Frustrating.
“I’m not here for the weekend,” he said.
“Granted, my ball-striking [was good] and [I] felt like my putting was good enough to be in contention, and I’m not.
“Yes, it is frustrating because I’m not here to have a chance to win on the weekend.”

Woods has now played seven major championships since returning to men’s professional golf at the 2022 Masters following his car crash the year prior.
