Golf legend Tiger Woods makes unsurprising announcement: “I’m disappointed”
Multiple major winner Tiger Woods has confirmed he will not play in the forthcoming PGA Tour event he hosts annually in the Bahamas.
Tiger Woods says he is ‘disappointed’ as he confirmed he won’t be teeing it up in the Hero World Challenge next month.
Woods has decided to skip the annual PGA Tour event in the Bahamas, of which he serves as tournament host, as he continues his recovery from his latest back surgery.
The 15-time major winner has only played the event once in the last three years.
He underwent his sixth back surgery in September, two months after he missed the cut at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon.
The surgery was aimed at alleviating the pain and spasms he has felt since his single vehicle car crash in February 2021.
In a statement, Woods wrote: “I’m disappointed I will not be able to compete at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week @HeroMotorCorp.”
I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp. Excited to welcome our exemptions @JustinThomas34, @JDayGolf and @NickDunlap62 into the field.

Woods has also confirmed that the final three spots in the field will go to his good buddy Justin Thomas, former World No.1 Jason Day and Nick Nunlap.
The Hero World Challenge takes place at Albany Golf Club over 5-8 December.
Woods is yet to confirm whether or not he will play the PNC Championship with his teenage son Charlie.
This is the latest setback for the 82-time PGA Tour winner.
At the end of 2023, Woods said he hoped to play at least one event per month this year.
But that plan has failed to materialise.
In truth, it has been a pretty miserable year on the course for Woods.
He was forced out of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera through sickness.
Woods kept his cut streak alive at The Masters, but laboured to a dead last finish over the weekend at Augusta National.
He also missed the cut at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship
