Scottie Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott Opens up on why he left Bubba Watson for Scheffler

With seven wins, 16 top-tens and a $25 million FedEx Cup Playoffs final prize, Scottie Scheffler and his accountant had pretty good years. The World No. 1 raked in just over $62.3 million for the season and can now have as many Texas ribeye steaks as he could possibly want. The PGA Tour might not have LIV Golf payouts, but Scheffler still cashed in and isn’t experiencing “deep regret” on a daily basis.

Like Scheffler, caddie Ted Scott also raked in the benjamins this season. In fact, if Scott were a player, he would have finished the 2023-’24 season in the top 20 on the money list. That’s called backing the right horse.

Scottie Scheffler has been so dominant this year that his caddie, Ted Scott, will take home over $5 million.

That would place him within the PGA Tour’s top 25, earning more this year than guys like Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Will Zalatoris, and Justin Thomas.

MORE: With $62 million earned on course this year, Scottie Scheffler blows away most pro athletes

The veteran caddie is calculated to have earned $2.6 million purely from Scheffler’s winnings in 2024 alone and that’s before a playoffs bonanza in which Scott took home a tidy change of $2.5M at East Lake.

NBC Sports has also estimated that Scott has accumulated $5,238,499.57 in total, which is right between Matthieu Pavon and Brian Harman on the PGA Tour money list. That would be the No. 20 spot for Ted Scott above big-time golfers like Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Max Homa.

It’s not like Scott was wanting for money before meeting Scheffler, looping for Bubba Watson for 15 years featuring two Masters victories and a good chunk of change, but this is above and beyond for most tour pros … let alone caddies. It’s a good thing he was talked out of retirement.

What exactly will Scott do with that money? Build a backyard par 3, so he can practice carrying bags? Open a gym that focuses on lifting things up and walking for miles and miles? Maybe he’ll just take a vacation and spend some time making someone else pick out stuff for him?

No matter what he decides, we might not see Scott again for a while. The man himself (jokingly?) tweeted “Yep. I’m not coming back until 2026 😜” on Tuesday. Let the holdout begin.
