PGA Tour caddie ripped into over wild Bryson DeChambeau claim during US Open

Grayson Murray’s former caddie Kip Henley has implored the USGA to check the specifications on Bryson DeChambeau’s putter.

Grayson Murray’s former caddie Kip Henley has implored the USGA to check the specifications on Bryson DeChambeau’s putter.

Henley made the claim on X, hours after the American LIV player completed his third round at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2.

DeChambeau will take a three-shot lead going into the final round in North Carolina.

Once again the 30-year-old has been simply box office viewing this week.

DeChambeau ignited crowds at Augusta National in April.

And he pushed Xander Schauffele all the way at the PGA Championship.

If you didn’t know, DeChambeau is playing with a custom set of 3D printed irons from Avoda Golf.

He developed the clubs with his long-time coach, Mike Shy, and they were approved by golf’s rule-makers days before the Masters.

DeChambeau is also using a SIK Pro C-Series arm-lock putter.

But the aforementioned Henley has taken issue with DeChambeau’s flatstick.

Henley made it clear that he wasn’t trying to ‘hate’ on the golfer, but he argued: “If I’m a player around the lead in the US Open I would ask the USGA to check the specs on this putter.

“The shaft has to lean away from head at least 10 degrees. It sure looks vertical. Not being a dick or hate him at all but it is a rule.”

The response Henley received was almost overwhelmingly negative.

“If a PGA Tour golfer was leading you wouldn’t be saying this,” one X user replied.

“Rules are rules and I’m sure the USGA have done their checks on his kit,” another added.

Another user pointed out:

And this user wrote: “You’re just after cheap clicks.”

Henley didn’t respond to every post, but stressed: “I was just giving us something to talk about. I’m fine with DeSham winning.”

For clarity, here are the specs on DeChambeau’s putter:

Putter: SIK Pro C (arm-lock)
Sightline: Black flange
Shaft: LA Golf C2L-180
Length: 43 degrees
Loft: 6 degrees
Lie: 78 degrees
Head weight: 380g
