Max Verstappen suffers $19m salary bonus cut

— Max Verstappen, crowned World Champion for the fourth consecutive time, is reportedly set to lose $19m in bonus payments for the F1 2024 season compared to 2023.

— Despite starting the season with four wins in the first five races, Verstappen and Red Bull faced tougher competition from McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes this year.

— Verstappen’s reduced victories, just eight so far this season compared to 19 in 2023, are cited as the reason for the bonus reduction.

— Red Bull’s fading form mid-season saw Verstappen go 10 races without a win, his longest drought since 2020.

— Verstappen is still the highest-paid driver in F1, with a base salary of approximately $70m, excluding bonuses for race wins and championships.

— A report by Fox Sports Mexico claimed:

“Verstappen’s reduced number of victories in F1 2024 will hit him in the pocket, having claimed just eight victories so far this season – 11 fewer than 2023.”

— Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Helmut Marko also saw significant pay rises, reflecting the team’s record-breaking success in 2023.
