Max Verstappen sends Honest Message to FIA for Brazil red flag delay

Max Verstappen endured a difficult session in Sao Paulo and is now set to start the Brazilian Grand Prix from towards the back of the grid.

Max Verstappen was left visibly annoyed with race control after being eliminated during Q2 in Brazil.

The early exit, coupled with his engine grid penalty, means Verstappen is set to start the grand prix in 17th place.

Verstappen was looking to improve his lap time in the latter stages of Q2 before Lance Stroll crashed at Turn 3.

At the time of Stroll’s crash, the Dutchman was sitting in 11th place – however there was 1 minute and 36 seconds left on the clock and 50 seconds later, the red flag was deployed.

As a result, the session was not resumed which denied Verstappen the opportunity to have another attempt.

“A car hits the wall, it needs to be straight red,” Verstappen told Sky F1 after the session.

“I don’t understand why it needs to take 30 to 40 seconds for a red flag to come. It’s bullshit.”

When it was explained to Verstappen that race control was perhaps looking to allow drivers to conclude their laps, the Dutchman was unimpressed.

“You know, honestly, I let it go,” he said. “It’s so stupid anyway to talk about. It’s ridiculous.”

Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez also endured a difficult session and was eliminated in Q2 – he is set to start in 11th place, promoted up one spot due to Verstappen’s penalty
