Sir Lewis hailed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding for bringing diversity to the Royal Family.

Lewis Hamilton had a three-word reaction to meeting Meghan Markle for the first time
Lewis Hamilton summed up his reaction to seeing Meghan Markle marry Prince Harry in three words. The Mercedes ace lavished praise upon the Duchess of Sussex after watching the Royal Wedding in May 2018.

He said he watched with a smile on his face “the whole time”. Sir Lewis hailed Meghan’s marrying into the Royal Family as a “positive change”, adding: “It was just a really proud day for the world and it’s always great to see positivity and change.”

He used just three words to sum up his feelings about the occasion, saying it was the “greatest weekend ever”.

Hamilton, 38, said: “The fact you do have diversity in the Royal Family today is a huge thing. People probably don’t realise how important that is.

“Even to see at the church you had a mixture with the ministers, in the music, in the choir, it was just really beautiful to see.”

Royal fans were thrilled by the marriage at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, where Harry and Meghan exchanged their wedding vows. Since the special occasion, royal experts have drawn comparisons between the Sussexes’ big day and King Charles’s Coronation five years later.

Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen, said the marriage of the Duke and Duchess presented a more modern vision of the monarchy in contrast to King Charles’s crowning.

He said: “It was just a really proud day for the world and it’s always great to see positivity and change.” Mr Irving added: “It had the American choir, the American pastor. It wasn’t too long of a service.”

King Charles failed to deliver a more progressive vision of the monarchy and the length of the service was “interminable”, according to the royal author.

He said the event was too “medieval” and lacked the diversity of faith and cultural makeup which made the Sussexes’ wedding a success
