Adrian Newey future with Red Bull looks uncertain amid rumours of moves to Aston Martin and Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton has already given his thoughts on the engineer’s talents

Leiws Hamilton has spoken out on the prospect of Adrian Newey moving to Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton is in no doubt what Adrian Newey would offer to Ferrari as speculation grows over his exit from Red Bull.

Newey has been a key part of the Austrian constructors’ huge success over recent seasons. They have won six separate F1 constructors championships since 2010 – the most recent coming last term. However, Red Bull could be set to lose Newey’s services sooner rather than later.

It has not yet been confirmed where he will end up but there have been suggestions that he could link up with Ferrari. It would not be the first audacious move from the Italian side this season, after sealing the signature of Hamilton for 2025.

And the seven-time champion would no doubt welcome a move for Newey, having previously been full of praise for his talents.

Speaking about the 65-year-old, he said simply: “He doesn’t build bad cars”.

Hamilton added: “It’s more that I’m impressed with Adrian Newey and his team. I think it is a great team; they’ve generally had really great cars for some time.

“They’ve done a fantastic job and anything I’ve said in the past about the team, I didn’t mean it in a negative way. I think years ago I said something about them being a drinks company, and I was just really highlighting that you would bet more on a car company, but they’ve proved me wrong and everyone else.

“But also knowing that Adrian did his thesis on ground effect cars when he was at university, it’s no surprise what he has done and created this year. It is impressive but I believe in the young guns in my team and that we will catch up.”

Hamilton has also been asked recently about the prospect of Newey moving to Ferrari but refused to get drawn into any speculation while his loyalties remain with Mercedes. He said: “I know he’s a huge part of [Red Bull], of course, but I know there are so many engineers in the background that are a huge part of developing the team and the car that they have and it’s not down to one person.
