Ian Poulter reveals when he’ll quit LIV Golf

England’s Ian Poulter has revealed when he plans to step away from the breakaway LIV Golf League as he offered his take on Sergio Garcia’s Ryder Cup dream.

Ian Poulter says his LIV Golf career will ‘naturally’ come to an end, although it might not be as soon as ‘some might want’.

The Englishman, now 48 years old, finished 37th on the breakaway tour’s overall standings this season.

His Majesticks teammates also endured a difficult time on the course, with Henrik Stenson finishing 35th and Lee Westwood 36th.

Sam Horsfield, whose future with the team was up in the air, finished 31st.

Overall, the Majesticks finished 11th out of 13 teams.

It has begged the question as to whether Poulter or indeed Westwood or Stenson would be prepared to step aside for some younger players.

Former Masters champion Bubba Watson was also relegated from LIV this season and admitted he would be prepared to retire if he was no longer competitive.

It is understood Watson will play on for at least one more season.

Poulter told Vincenzi that work is already going on behind-the-scenes to target future Majesticks players.

“At some stage it’s inevitable,” Poulter said when asked about when he will have to step aside.

“It will naturally happen, I think.

“We’re trying personally for it not to happen as quick as some might want.

“But, you know, we’ve earmarked within the world golf system a platform to kind of work out who would be a good fit within our team, who would be an A ranked player, B ranked player, C, D and E.

“And really try and look at what options could be available to us and at what time they would be available to us.

“So, behind-the-scenes that work is already being done.”

He continued: “It’s not for public knowledge of who sits on the A, B, C, D and E list but internally we have been thinking about it, the team have been thinking about it and again James [Dunkley] and Ollie [Banks] are doing what they need to do to be able to, you know, keep that in mind with how things are going to progress over the next 12, 24 [and] 36 months.”

Poulter also confirmed that Horsfield will be a Majesticks player in 2025.

The 28-year-old finished in the open zone, meaning he could talk to another team about a transfer.

The Majesticks have recently started uploading a documentary series that was filmed in 2024 onto their YouTube channel.

During that documentary, Horsfield appeared to indicate that he would be open to a switch elsewhere.
