FIA issues final verdict on Red Bull’s bib adjuster device

FIA has recently closed the case of Red Bull’s front bib height adjuster device. They have decided not to investigate past car setups the defending world champions used in order to discover whether they have altered front bib height before or not.

Right before the 2024 F1 US GP, the FIA made sure that no modifications were done to the front bib on any car between race sessions, particularly during Parc Ferme conditions.

Front bib is an aerodynamic element situated underneath the front wing and behind the front axle. It is also known as T-ray. Adjusting this part during Parc Ferme is not allowed because it could change the overall ride height of the vehicle.

Eventually, it was discovered that Red Bull was the team that was exploiting this flaw by altering the T-ray. During the first practice session in Austin, a few FIA delegates visited the Austrian team’s garage to see how the defending world champions adjusted the front bib height.

Recently, Motorsport.com reported that the FIA has closed the case and has sealed areas in the car to disallow the Milton Keynes-based team from making any changes to the front bib during the 2024 F1 US GP.

Speaking to the media, FIA’s head of single-seater series, Nikolas Tombazis, said that though he cannot confirm whether there have not been irregularities in Red Bull’s front bib height, he feels the case is closed.

He also mentioned how difficult it would be to investigate past races and check whether the Austrian giants changed front bib height during parc ferme.

“I mean, honestly, can I say with complete certainty about whether there’s ever been anything irregular? No. Can I say that the matter is closed? Yes, absolutely,” Tombazis said.

“To go and retroactively actually prove exactly what has happened before is difficult, and we don’t think we have the ability to go and investigate two years’ worth of situation,” he added.
