‘Childish’ Tyrrell Hatton torn to shreds by fellow pro: “Nobody gives a s— you don’t like the greens”

English tour pro Eddie Pepperell has blasted Tyrrell Hatton over his behaviour at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Eddie Pepperell has launched a scathing attack on Tyrrell Hatton after the Englishman divided opinion with his behaviour at the DP World Tour finale last week.

Hatton raised eyebrows in Dubai for a series of expletive-laden outbursts.

First, hot mics picked up the 33-year-old eviscerating the Earth Course’s par-5 18th in the second round.

“I despise everything about this hole,” Hatton said. “A truly awful golf hole.”

A day later, he snapped his golf club after a loose iron shot.

Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray suggested at this point that, despite Hatton’s obvious talent, it was ‘time for a change’ as he is not setting a good example for the next generation.

During the same round, Hatton was also overheard criticising the greens, describing them as ‘s—‘.

Pepperell gave his verdict on the most recent installment of The Chipping Forecast.

And he did not hold back, even describing Hatton as ‘childish’, ‘petulant’ and ‘frankly unappealing’ despite being a ‘brilliant, brilliant golfer’ and a ‘lovely kid’.

“Why would you do that?”

Pepperell said: “I never personally have an issue with a player breaking a club. They could break 10, for all I care, because I think the only person that’s affecting is them and I have no issue with that.

“The thing that I have never found particularly endearing about Tyrrell from watching him play golf is his constant commentary and his swearing about the greens and his complaining because it’s just ugly and it’s childish. It’s petulant… it’s just frankly unappealing.

“And I hate to say that because to your [host Andrew Cotter] point he’s a lovely lad and a brilliant golfer. He’s a brilliant, brilliant golfer and that’s what we should be talking about with Tyrrell.”

He added: “And he wouldn’t need to make huge changes [for us] to only really talk about his golf. But, again, we’re talking about his behaviour and it’s not the first time.

“And I actually think the snapping of the club isn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back for Ewen Murray because it was actually quite a benign club snap.

“It’s on top of everything else, right? Everything that preceded that. Like you say, if you’re annoying Ewen Murray then you’ve got a problem.

“If that was me, and I heard Ewen Murray say that then I’d be like, ‘wow’, and it would make my stomach drop because to your point, Iain [Carter, BBC golf journalist], he is the voice of reason and wisdom and that’s the thing that Tyrrell is lacking at this point.”

Tyrrell on 18…

Hatton: “It’s absolutely tragic. I despite everything about this hole. Having to hit 9-iron after hitting a good tee shot, shows how bad it is.”

Caddie: “Just hit a good line. Right centre.”

Pepperell also suggested that Hatton’s behaviour should also be different given he joined LIV Golf for a reported huge pay day.

It is understood that the Englishman was paid between $40-60m to join the Saudi-backed league.
