Tyrrell Hatton has spoken out about his uncertain Ryder Cup future as both he and Jon Rahm face potential exclusion from the 2027 edition due to their ties with LIV Golf. The pair, who joined the Saudi-backed league last year, are currently appealing fines imposed by the DP World Tour — penalties that could directly impact their eligibility.
Hatton and Rahm were standout performers for Team Europe at Bethpage Black, pairing up to win both their matches and helping the side secure a historic victory on U.S. soil. Yet despite their success, both now find themselves at the center of an ongoing dispute with the DP World Tour, which requires membership for Ryder Cup qualification.
Speaking after Europe’s triumph, Hatton appeared hopeful that the situation would be resolved in time.
“To be honest, it hasn’t crossed my mind,” he admitted. “I’d like to think I’ll be eligible, with how it all works out. I’m hoping it’s positive and that I can continue to play on the DP World Tour and in future Ryder Cups.”
When pressed on whether he would simply pay the fines to secure his place, Hatton remained cautious: “We’ll see what happens. I won’t think about that until everything’s worked out.”
Rahm, meanwhile, was less certain. “You know as much as I do,” he said. “I have no idea. I completely forgot about it, which is probably a good thing. Hopefully, I won’t have to think about it until it comes around.”
Both players remain eligible for now thanks to the appeal process, but with the next Ryder Cup two years away, their long-term status remains unresolved. For Europe, the question is whether two of their biggest stars will be allowed to help defend their crown in 2027.
Despite the uncertainty, the mood in the European camp was one of celebration after their hard-fought win in New York. “It was a good party, absolutely,” Hatton smiled. “It was such a tough day, one of the most stressful rounds of golf of my life. But winning makes it all worthwhile, and we definitely enjoyed ourselves.”
