The tragic news was confirmed earlier this week on White’s Instagram account by a close friend, who wrote: “Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love. She is already so deeply missed by her dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie [her dogs]. We love you Mak. We’ll miss you always, and we’ll be looking for you in the sunset.”
White graduated from McMaster University in 2019 with degrees in communications and software engineering before pursuing a career in surgical sales, providing equipment for vascular and cardiac surgeons.
In his tribute, Knapp — ranked 80th in the world — described her as deeply selfless. “Makena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate,” he said. “We shared so many unforgettable memories together, and now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a tough reality to comprehend. She had an incredible family, great friends, and her fun, outgoing energy will be missed by all of us.”
He added that her loss is “an understatement to process” and asked for privacy on behalf of White’s family and loved ones as they grieve.
Knapp and White had been in a relationship since August 2023. The cause of her death has not been made public.
