Xander Schauffele, fresh off his victory at The Open Championship, has downplayed the ongoing comparisons between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, calling the debate unnecessary and overblown.
Speaking to reporters after lifting the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, Schauffele made it clear that he’s focused on his own game, not the politics of professional golf. “People always want to draw lines between the tours, but at the end of the day, we’re all just trying to compete and win,” he said. “There’s too much talk and not enough golf.”
The 30-year-old American, who’s been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour, acknowledged that the arrival of LIV Golf has shaken up the sport. But instead of picking a side, Schauffele believes fans and players alike should focus on performance, not affiliations.
“Whether you’re on LIV or the PGA Tour, great golf speaks for itself,” he added. “I don’t think it helps the game when we keep comparing. Just let the guys play.”
His comments come amid renewed tension between the two tours, especially with several former major champions now playing in the LIV circuit. Despite this, Schauffele remains firm in his belief that the sport will sort itself out in time — and that results on the course should be the ultimate measure.
“I just won a major. That’s what matters to me,” he said. “Not who’s playing where.”
With this win, Schauffele has not only added a major title to his résumé but also shown he’s not interested in the drama off the course. His message was clear: let the golf do the talking.
