Billy Horschel recently shared the unfortunate news that he had to withdraw from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans due to a lower body injury. This unexpected decision meant that he would not be able to partner with Tom Hoge as planned for the team event at TPC Louisiana. Instead, Kevin Chappell will step in as the first alternate to take his place.
Expressing his disappointment, Horschel took to X to explain the situation, stating, “Sucks to WD. Unfortunately, I have a lower body injury. Hopefully after a few days of rest, recovery, and therapy, I’ll be back and good to go.”
Horschel has a unique history with the tournament, having won it both as an individual in 2013 and as part of a team with Scott Piercy in 2018. In a pre-tournament news conference, the 35-year-old golfer also shared details about his post-Masters celebrations in Northern Ireland.
Reflecting on his journey towards completing the career grand slam, Horschel mentioned how touched he was by the support he received from people from all walks of life. He even received congratulatory calls from two former presidents within 24 hours of his playoff win over Justin Rose.
Despite the setback of his injury, Horschel remains positive about his life both personally and professionally, emphasizing the transformative power of a year’s time.
