BMW PGA Championship winner makes feelings clear on Ryder Cup snub

Alex Noren capped off a memorable week at Wentworth by winning the BMW PGA Championship — but the Swedish star admitted he never felt entitled to a late Ryder Cup call-up.

Despite lifting the DP World Tour’s flagship trophy, Noren explained that his form across the season had not been consistent enough to warrant a place in Luke Donald’s European side heading to Bethpage Black.

“I think the other guys have played better than me throughout the year,” Noren told Golf Monthly. “I’ve had a great result now in the last month, but it came a little bit too late. The team is fantastic. Back in 2018, I wanted to prove I could play a lot of matches, and I got three. That felt fair.”

The 43-year-old, who has battled through stretches of indifferent results in 2025, was candid about his shortcomings. “You’ve got to play really well all the time — that’s what the best players do. I showed good form late, but it was the wrong time. Too many bad tournaments in the middle of the season, then way better in the last six starts.”

While disappointed, Noren showed no bitterness and instead pledged full support to the European team, who went on to seal victory over the United States. “I think my role is an extra set of eyes for Luke,” he said, making clear he was ready to contribute in whatever way possible.
