Francesco Molinari Confirmed as Vice-Captain for 2025 Ryder Cup

Francesco Molinari has been officially named as a vice-captain for Team Europe ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup, set to take place at Bethpage Black in New York. The Italian golfer, who played a pivotal role in Europe’s victory at Le Golf National in 2018, will once again lend his experience and insight to the European side, this time in a leadership role under captain Luke Donald.

Molinari joins a growing list of trusted figures supporting Donald’s bid to reclaim the Ryder Cup on American soil after Europe’s crushing defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021 and their emphatic home win in Rome in 2023. Having already served as vice-captain last time out, Molinari’s return reflects the confidence Donald and the European leadership team have in his strategic mind and deep understanding of team dynamics.

“I’m very proud to be part of the team again,” Molinari said in a statement. “Being vice-captain in Rome was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career, and I’m honoured to have another opportunity to contribute.”

The 2018 Open Champion brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and a leader. His 5-0-0 record at the 2018 Ryder Cup remains one of the most memorable performances in modern Ryder Cup history, making him a natural choice for a mentoring role to younger players.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald welcomed Molinari’s appointment, saying, “Francesco is someone the players deeply respect. His calm presence, professionalism, and deep commitment to European golf make him an ideal vice-captain.”

With Bethpage Black known for its demanding setup and rowdy New York crowds, the challenge ahead is substantial. However, Molinari’s presence in the European camp offers a steadying influence and a connection to the values that have long driven European success in the competition.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held from September 26–28. Further announcements regarding the full vice-captain lineup and team selection are expected in the coming months.
