Shane Lowry sends Xander Schauffele yet another message ahead of the Olympics

Shane Lowry was leading the 2024 Open Championship going into the weekend. He was one of the favorites to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday (July 21). However, Xander Schauffele played immaculate golf and snatched a victory at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland.

Despite that, the Irish golfer congratulated Xander Schauffle on X, formerly Twitter, for winning The Open. He also expressed his feelings for missing out on the victory after being in the hunt for most of the tournament. Lowry also mentioned Roll on Paris, meaning he is getting ready to represent his country in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

“The greatest walk in golf and I got to do it for the last 4 days. There is nothing like the buzz of being in the hunt at @TheOpen at the weekend. Gutted I didn’t do better but thanks everyone for their support. Well done @XSchauffele. Roll on Paris,” Lowry wrote.

Xander Schauffele is the defending champion, as he won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, while Lowry finished T22. But Shane Lowry will look to turn things around in the upcoming Paris Olympics and get a medal.

Look back at Shane Lowry’s performance at the 2024 Open Championship

Shane Lowry had an exceptional start to his 2024 Open Championship campaign as he carded 66 on day one and remained in the top half of the leaderboard. He remained bogey-free for the day with five birdies showcasing his prowess on the links golf course.

Unfortunately, the moving day dragged Shane Lowry below as he struggled immensely to maintain his lead, especially on the back nine. He carded just one birdie, five bogeys, and a double bogey to score +6 for the day. Lowry fell to -1 for the event going into the final round but was just three strokes behind the lead.

He needed a strong finish on the final day to give himself a chance of winning the 2024 Open Championship. Unfortunately, Xander Schauffele annihilated the course on the final day as he carded -6 for the day and remained -9 for the event.

Hence, despite carding -3 for the event, Lowry remained five strokes behind the Champion Golfer of the Year. In hindsight, we can say his performance in the third round came back to haunt him
