Report: Sam Burns Set for Ryder Cup Spot After Bradley’s Captain’s Pick

Sam Burns is reportedly heading back to the Ryder Cup after receiving one of Keegan Bradley’s six captain’s picks for Team USA.

According to NUCLR Golf, Bradley has informed the 29-year-old that he will be part of the American squad at Bethpage Black next month. Burns finished 16th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, missing out on an automatic place, but his recent form appears to have swayed the captain’s decision.

The five-time PGA Tour winner delivered back-to-back strong performances in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, placing fourth at the BMW Championship and seventh at the Tour Championship.

“I know whatever decision he [Bradley] makes is going to be what he thinks is best for the team,” Burns said after his East Lake finish. “Ultimately, I’m Team USA. If I’m on the team, awesome. If I’m not, I’ll be rooting for them.”

If confirmed, this will be Burns’ second Ryder Cup appearance. He made his debut in Rome in 2023, where the U.S. suffered a heavy defeat to Europe, contributing one point from three matches. Currently ranked 22nd in the world, Burns also has experience from the last two Presidents Cups and is a close friend of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, making them a likely pairing in New York.

Bradley will officially announce his six selections on Wednesday. Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay are also expected to be included, while speculation continues over whether Bradley might name himself as a playing captain—a role not seen since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Six Americans have already secured their places automatically: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, JJ Spaun, Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau, and Harris English.

On the European side, Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, and Rasmus Hojgaard have qualified, with captain Luke Donald set to announce his six picks on September 1.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be contested at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26–28.
