Cleveland Opens Its Doors to Rising Malagasy Star Mathias M’Madi

Mathias M’Madi’s dream of reaching the NBA is getting closer to reality. The young Malagasy point guard has taken another significant step in his journey by receiving a pre-draft workout invitation from the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft.

The 20-year-old, originally from Antsiranana, Madagascar, announced the news on his official Instagram account, confirming reports from Fidesport. The Cavaliers’ interest comes just days after M’Madi impressed scouts at the 2025 Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy, where he tallied six assists in his opening game and showcased his all-around playmaking ability.

M’Madi declared for the NBA Draft following an outstanding performance during the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers. Representing Madagascar on home soil in Antananarivo, he averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, playing a key role in helping his national team qualify for the tournament’s final stage in Angola.

At 1.96 meters tall (6’5″), M’Madi is considered an intriguing international prospect thanks to his versatility, smooth shooting from distance, and sharp court vision. His ability to finish strong at the rim and read the game efficiently has drawn the attention of several NBA scouts.

After his session with Cleveland, M’Madi is expected to train with two other NBA franchises as part of his pre-draft tour. These workouts are crucial opportunities to boost his draft stock ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, scheduled for late June.

Once his U.S. commitments wrap up, M’Madi will return to France to begin preparations with the Madagascar national team for AfroBasket 2025, which will be held in Angola from August 12 to 24.

As he continues to rise, Mathias M’Madi is proving that talent from Madagascar can make waves on the global stage.
