Several’ players in talks over LIV Golf switch following Ryder Cup dramaBy

LIV Golf star Martin Kaymer has revealed that he is in discussions with “several” DP World Tour players about a potential move to the Saudi-backed circuit, just days after the Ryder Cup concluded at Bethpage Black.

Kaymer, a two-time major champion and current captain of Cleeks Golf Club, joined LIV in 2022 and has since become one of the league’s most high-profile names. Despite his experience, Cleeks endured another difficult campaign this year, finishing bottom of the standings after placing 11th in 2024.

This season, Kaymer’s roster featured Richard Bland, Frederik Kjettrup, and Adrian Meronk. However, Kjettrup’s relegation means the team will need a new recruit for 2026 – and conversations are already underway.

“We are already on the case talking to several players,” Kaymer told Bunkered. “We have had a lot of interest, which is a great thing. We’re seeing interest from the European Tour – even guys who finished top-10 in Ireland last month. Managers have been calling, and the conversations are happening.”

The timing of Kaymer’s comments comes in the aftermath of Europe’s 15–13 Ryder Cup victory over the United States, a tournament that once again placed the future of golf’s fractured landscape under the spotlight.

But according to the former World No.1, the next phase of LIV’s recruitment drive will not be built on money alone.

“People think it’s still about the rumours of millions being handed out left, right and centre,” he explained. “We’re not that kind of team anymore. Yes, you get paid well if you perform, but not simply for putting your signature on a contract.

“Our focus has to be on performance. That’s something we’ve been missing, and it needs to change. We want players who are willing to work hard and inspire each other – not just come for a big paycheck. LIV has moved away from that.”

With changes looming and pressure mounting to improve, Kaymer and his Cleeks side face a crucial off-season as they prepare for the 2026 campaign.
