Detroit Mortgage Mogul Dan Gilbert and Wife Jennifer Splitting After ’30 Meaningful Years’

Billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert, founder of Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his wife Jennifer Gilbert have announced they are parting ways after three decades of marriage.

The couple, who married in the early 1990s, confirmed their separation in a joint statement on Saturday, describing their decision as “deeply personal” but rooted in mutual respect.

“After 30 meaningful years together, we have decided to end our marriage,” the Gilberts said. “We remain proud of the family we’ve built, the memories we’ve shared, and the impact we’ve made together through business and philanthropy. We will continue to support one another as friends and partners in our shared commitments.”

Dan Gilbert, 63, has long been one of Detroit’s most influential figures, credited with spearheading downtown revitalization through his Rock Ventures empire. Jennifer Gilbert, 56, is a successful entrepreneur in her own right, known for founding Amber Engine, a home furnishings data company, and for her active role in philanthropic work focused on children and community development.

The couple share five children. In 2019, their family faced tragedy when their eldest son, Nick Gilbert, passed away at the age of 26 after a lifelong battle with neurofibromatosis. Both Dan and Jennifer have since poured their efforts into funding medical research and supporting families affected by the disease.

Their split marks the end of a high-profile partnership that combined business acumen with a commitment to Detroit’s resurgence. Still, those close to the couple say the two intend to continue collaborating on charitable projects and maintaining stability for their family.

Neither Dan nor Jennifer has spoken publicly beyond their statement, and no additional details about the terms of their separation have been disclosed.
