The PGA Tour has been fiercely competitive this season, with 13 first-time winners showing the depth of talent and proving it’s not just Scottie Scheffler who’s lifting trophies each week.
With one event left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin, only the top 70 players will advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and some high-profile names are in danger of missing out entirely. While stars like Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have comfortably secured their spots, others are battling to save their seasons.
Nicolai Hojgaard (71st)
The Ryder Cup winner’s season has been inconsistent, with a runner-up finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and two additional top-10s, but five missed cuts from 11 events have left him on the edge. Skipping the 3M Open cost him two ranking spots, meaning he must perform well at the Wyndham Championship to stay in the Playoff picture.
Gary Woodland (75th)
The 2019 U.S. Open champion has shown flashes of form, including a runner-up finish in Houston, but too many missed cuts have hurt his ranking. A top-20 at the 3M Open has kept his chances alive, but he still needs a strong showing in the final event.
Rasmus Hojgaard (82nd)
The other Hojgaard twin has shown potential with five top-25 finishes, but like Nicolai, he needs better results to climb inside the top 70. His Ryder Cup hopes may also depend on a turnaround in form.
Adam Scott (85th)
The former Masters champion has failed to crack the top 10 this season despite making most cuts. To reach the Playoffs, Scott likely needs at least one standout finish.
Tom Kim (89th)
Sitting outside the top 70 and just inside the top 100, Kim faces pressure not only to qualify for the Playoffs but also to maintain his Tour card. Despite a promising T17 at the Genesis Scottish Open, eight missed cuts have hurt his standing.
Billy Horschel (97th)
Recovering from hip surgery, Horschel has missed most of the season and is almost certain to miss the Playoffs. His early-year form included a T4 finish, but time is running out.
Max Homa (106th)
A difficult year for Homa has seen seven missed cuts and only one top-10 finish. He is more focused on securing his PGA Tour status rather than making a Playoff push.
Sahith Theegala (144th)
Theegala’s season was disrupted by injuries, and since returning, he has struggled to find form. Recent missed cuts, including at The Open and 3M Open, have left him with almost no chance of making the postseason.
