Bryson DeChambeau has fired back at Team Europe with a stark warning ahead of the next Ryder Cup, following Rory McIlroy’s confident comments about European dominance.
The American star, fresh from a string of impressive performances on the LIV Golf circuit, insists Team USA will not allow a repeat of their humbling defeat in Rome last year. McIlroy had recently suggested Europe’s emphatic 16½-11½ win could mark the start of another golden era for the team, similar to their dominance in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
But DeChambeau is determined to ensure that does not happen. Speaking during an interview, he said:
“We’re coming for revenge, and it’s going to be different next time. The Americans are motivated. We’re not going to let Europe run away with it again. I know how much it means to our guys, and I promise you, we’ll be ready to fight back.”
DeChambeau’s comments come as tensions between the two sides continue to simmer. McIlroy’s suggestion that Team USA lack “the same level of passion and unity” as Europe drew mixed reactions across the golf world. Some US fans agreed, calling for a more cohesive team approach, while others pointed to America’s crushing 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits in 2021 as proof they can still dominate.
The next Ryder Cup, set for Bethpage Black in 2027, is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested in recent memory. DeChambeau, whose power and innovation have divided opinion in the sport, has vowed to bring his A-game if selected for the squad.
“We need to make a statement, and that’s what I intend to do. It’s about pride, about showing that we can match their fire and even surpass it,” DeChambeau added.
