Brooks Koepka has been fined and suspended from professional golf events following a heated outburst at the LIV Golf Dallas tournament, where he destroyed a tee marker in frustration.
The incident occurred during the opening round at Maridoe Golf Club on June 27, 2025. Koepka, a five-time major champion, struggled through the front nine, carding multiple bogeys and a triple bogey. On the 9th tee box, after an errant drive and growing signs of frustration, Koepka slammed his driver into a tee marker, snapping it and sending debris flying toward the spectator area.
Although no injuries were reported, the act was widely criticized for its lack of sportsmanship. Moments later, Koepka withdrew from the tournament citing illness, though his emotional state had already drawn attention from LIV officials.
In response to the incident, LIV Golf released a statement confirming Koepka’s immediate suspension and an undisclosed fine. He has also been removed from his team’s individual scoring for the event. Mexican golfer Luis Carrera was announced as his replacement on Smash GC’s active roster.
Koepka may be allowed to return later in the tournament to assist in the team competition, but his eligibility for upcoming LIV events remains uncertain pending further disciplinary review.
This marks one of the most serious disciplinary actions taken against a top-tier player in LIV Golf history. Neither Koepka nor his team has issued a public statement regarding the sanctions.
