T-Mobile, lead sponsor of PGA Tour player Wyndham Clark, has expressed continued support for the golfer following a dramatic outburst during the final round of the PGA Championship last Sunday.
Clark, 31, lost his composure after an errant tee shot on the par-4 16th hole landed in a bunker. In frustration, he hurled his driver backward, striking a sponsor sign near the tee box. The force of the throw caused the clubhead to detach from the shaft.
Behind the sign was a course marshal, Chris Deiulio, who later posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the incident “scared me to death.”
Following backlash, Clark issued a public apology on social media, addressing fans and acknowledging his mistake.
“I sincerely apologize for my behavior yesterday on Hole 16,” Clark wrote. “As professionals, we’re expected to maintain composure even in tough moments. I let my emotions take over, and my actions were both inappropriate and unacceptable. I recognize I fell short of the standards I set for myself and what I represent. I am truly sorry and committed to improving how I handle frustration on the course.”
Despite the controversy, T-Mobile stood by their ambassador, who has been with the brand since April 2024.
“You’ve got our support, Wyndham,” the company stated. “And the good news is our 5G network is built for just about anything—even if our signs aren’t.”
