The PGA of America announced a record-setting purse of $19 million for the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club — a $500,000 increase over last year’s event at Valhalla. The first-place prize also saw a boost, with Scottie Scheffler taking home $3.42 million for his dominant five-shot win. In 2024, Xander Schauffele earned $3.33 millionfor his victory.
Scheffler, the current World No. 1, secured his third career major (adding to two Masters titles) after finishing at 11-under-par 273 with a final-round 71. He held off runners-up Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, and Davis Riley. Notably, DeChambeau finished second for the second year in a row. Jon Rahm, briefly tied for the lead mid-round, stumbled at the finish with double bogeys on the last two holes, dropping him into a tie for eighth.
The increase continues a yearly trend of growing prize pools at the PGA Championship, which has risen steadily since 2020, when the total purse was $11 million.
In the broader context of major golf tournaments, the PGA Championship now ranks third in total prize money:
- U.S. Open (2024): $21.5 million
- Masters (2025): $21 million
- The Open Championship (2024): $17 million
