Max Verstappen Penalized for Unsafe Pit Release During Miami GP Sprint

Max Verstappen received a 10-second time penalty during the Miami Grand Prix Sprint race for an unsafe release from the pit lane, which led to a collision with rookie Kimi Antonelli.

The incident occurred as Verstappen exited his pit box, inadvertently pulling into the path of Antonelli, who was entering his own pit stop. The resulting collision scattered debris across the pit lane, raising safety concerns and prompting an immediate review by race stewards.

The penalty significantly impacted Verstappen’s race, demoting him to 16th place and leaving him without any points from the Sprint.

The Sprint race itself was marked by challenging conditions, including a delayed start due to heavy rain and multiple on-track incidents. Lando Norris capitalized on the chaos to secure victory, followed by Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.

The main Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025, where drivers will have another opportunity to compete on the demanding Miami circuit.
