Masters champion Rory McIlroy has officially announced he’ll be playing in the Genesis Scottish Open before heading to Northern Ireland for The Open at Royal Portrush in mid-July.
McIlroy, who won the Scottish Open last year with a clutch two-iron shot on the final hole to edge out Bob MacIntyre, says he’s excited to return to the Renaissance Club.
“Winning a national open always means a lot, and I’m looking forward to another shot at the title,” he said. “It’s been a special year, and I hope to keep the momentum going through the summer.”
He’ll be part of a strong field that includes stars like Matthew Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Max Homa, and Justin Rose, as the event is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour.
Next on his calendar is the Truist Championship, but first, McIlroy plans to take a short break after the Zurich Classic to rest and recharge.
