Min Woo Lee penalized with one-shot penalty for violating golf regulations during The Masters

Min Woo Lee, an Australian golfer, received a one-shot penalty for infringing upon a golf regulation in the third round of the 2025 Masters held at Augusta.

Lee, who secured his first PGA Tour victory in Houston the previous month, breached the rule on the par-5 13th hole at Augusta National.

At 26 years old, he hit a successful tee shot into the fairway and aimed to reach the green with his second shot.

His second attempt landed in the first cut of rough, resulting in a par for that hole.

However, his score was later adjusted to a bogey after it was determined that he caused his golf ball to move while in the fairway.

Following Lee’s completion of the round on Saturday, Augusta National issued a statement.

“Regarding hole No. 13, Min Woo Lee sought help after his ball shifted on the fairway,” remarked Augusta National in their announcement.

“It was concluded that his movements close to the ball caused it to shift, leading to an additional penalty stroke under Rule 9.4b.”

Ultimately, Lee recorded a score of 5-over 77.

At the time this was reported, Lee was tied for 48th place with a score of 4-over par.

This marked Lee’s fourth participation in The Masters.

He has finished in the top 25 in five of his last nine major tournaments, including a tie for fifth place in the 2023 U.S. Open.

In March, Lee achieved his inaugural PGA Tour success with a one-stroke lead against Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland.
