While the world of golf has celebrated the return to form of Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas in recent weeks, the suspension of Wesley Bryan from the PGA Tour has left a simmer undercurrent in the sport.
Bryan has been suspended from the TOUR after playing in a recent ‘LIV Duels’ event alongside a number of other content creators and LIV Golf stars.
For that reason, Bryan has been deemed to breach certain rules on the PGA Tour and subsequently, is now suspended indefinitely.
Phil Mickelson has slammed the TOUR for suspending Bryan and now, over on YouTube, Bryan himself has responded himself to the situation he finds himself in.
For anyone who watches the Bryan Bros Golf channel regularly, it was always likely that Wesley Bryan was going to give a measured and balanced response.
And in speaking on his channel about his ban, that’s exactly what he’s done, albeit, with the caveat of his plans to launch an appeal.
“As you guys probably notice, I have been suspended from the PGA Tour. It’s been a difficult few weeks, and it’s been an emotional rollercoaster for sure,” Bryan began.
“I want to lead off by thanking the PGA Tour. They gave me the dream of playing on their tour, provided me with unbelievable opportunities and friendships and some unbelievable golf courses I’ve been able to play, so from our end, nothing but gratitude.
“Even in the midst of the little disagreement we have right now, I just want to say my proper thank you because they’ve given us so much.”
Bryan then went on to explain how his YouTube career had taken a priority in his life as he tries to balance playing competitively and making content.
However, he then got onto the crux of the ban and explained his feelings on everything.
“When we got the chance to play on Grant Horvat’s channel with five major champions and five of my best buds who are also amazing content creators, we had to jump at that opportunity as all we’ve ever wanted to do was try to merge YouTube and professional golf,” Bryan added.
“Now, to address the infraction that led to my suspension from the PGA Tour…the LIV Duels Miami was deemed an unauthorised event by the PGA Tour. I want to be clear, I do respect the authorities in place at the TOUR but because of the ambiguity of the rules and regs, I do as a member of the PGA Tour have a right to appeal which I plan on exercising. I don’t feel like when the rule was written it was meant to cover content creation on YouTube. I feel like it was meant to cover organised, professional, high level golf events. So with that being said, I plan on carrying out my right to appeal.”
