Ashun Wu delivered a remarkable final round performance, carding a 65 to secure victory at the Volvo China Open for the second time in his career.
The 39-year-old golfer had previously claimed the title in 2015, marking his first win at his home open. Starting the day amidst the contenders at Enhance Anting Golf Club in Shanghai, Wu surged to the top of the leaderboard with an impressive display, notching five birdies on the back nine to finish at 14-under.
Wu’s triumph saw him edge out England’s Jordan Smith by one stroke, with Germany’s Yannik Paul securing a solo third-place finish at 12-under. Former LIV Golf recruit Eugenio Chacarra, alongside Chinese players Zecheng Dou and Haotong Li, ended up tied for fourth at 11-under.
This victory marked Wu’s fifth DP World Tour title, a significant milestone in his career. Reflecting on his win, Wu expressed his joy and gratitude, emphasizing the special nature of winning in his home country.
“It’s a very special feeling to come back to Shanghai and win again after a decade,” Wu shared with Sky Sports. “The support from the fans and the familiarity of the golf course made it an incredible experience. I felt relaxed playing at home, and the energy of Shanghai truly brought me luck.”
Recalling his final round performance, Wu highlighted his patience and determination, particularly on the back nine where he capitalized on birdie opportunities. He credited his mental strength and focus for guiding him through the challenging moments and ultimately securing the victory.
