Spanish golfer Jon Rahm’s team has reportedly been suggested a loophole by the DP World Tour leadership to avoid his $1 million fine by appealing his sanctions. This report comes as European LIV Golf players are still in the dark on what future sanctions might be.

Rahm had joined the Saudi-backed league this year. Even if he appeals on the sanctions, there is no clear timeline as to when it will be heard.

With the LIV Golf and the PGA Tour merger fast approaching, it is obvious that the DP World Tour will be one of the beneficiaries of the financial backing. Much like the most staunch opposers of the LIV Golf, even the European tour in recent times has completely changed its stance of the Saudi-backed league. The former has started showing support to LIV Golf players, even promoting them on social media.

With the deal in near sight, there is still major uncertainty around what future sanctions on European LIV Golf plaers would look like.

Jon Rahm to kickstart his 2025 season with a DP World Tour event

Jon Rahm usually starts his seasons with a PGA Tour event. However, with his defection to LIV Golf, he stands banned from the Tour.

In surprising news, Rahm will start his 2025 season by making his debut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The event will be held from January 16th to 19th, 2024 at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, UAE. The Spaniard will be up against four-time champion Rory McIlroy along with ace golfers such as Tommy Fleetwood in a loaded field. He talked about his decision (via Golf Magic):

“This is an event that I have heard a lot about and I am looking forward to making my Hero Dubai Desert Classic debut in January. I have had a lot of success in Dubai in the past so it’s a place that holds a lot of good memories for me, and it will be great to get back there.”

Earlier Rahm’s competitive schedule used to start with The Sentry in Hawaii, The American Express, and the Farmers Insurance Open.
