PGA Tour names its rookie of the year

Nick Dunlap has been named the PGA Tour’s rookie of the year for the 2025 season after his sensational year on the North American circuit.

Nick Dunlap has won the PGA Tour’s rookie of the year award.

Dunlap was named the latest recipient of the Arnold Palmer Award on 19 December.

The American, 20, is the youngest player to win the trophy since Jordan Spieth in 2013.

Dunlap was nominated alongside U.S. duo Max Greyserman, Jake Knapp and Frenchman Matthieu Pavon.

Commissioner Jay Monahan said: “Nick carved out his place in the PGA Tour record book.

“To begin 2024 as a collegiate golfer and end it with two PGA Tour victories and among the top-50 players in the FedExCup is truly impressive.”

Monahan was alluding to the fact Dunlap cantered to victory at The American Express in January whilst he was still an amateur.

He was the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

Dunlap made his professional debut a week later at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

His second victory of the season arrived at the Barracuda Championship and he became the first player in history to win on the PGA Tour in the same year as an amateur and a professional.

Dunlap finished 67th in the FedEx Cup this season, which means he eligible to compete in all eight of the signature events on the 2025 schedule.

The rookie of the year award is determined by a vote from the members who have played in at least 15 events.

Scottie Scheffler, the runaway World No.1, won the player of the year award for a third year in a row.
