With just three PGA Tour events remaining in the season, the committee has announced a list of nominees for the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards. The awardees will receive the prestigious Jack Nicklaus Award and Arnold Palmer Award, respectively, for their stellar performances during the course of this year.
Scottie Scheffler is undoubtedly the top nominee for Player of the Year. This year, the World No. 1 recorded a whopping seven victories in 19 starts without missing a cut. Not only did he dominate the PGA Tour, but he also went on to bag the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics’ golf event.
Rory McIlroy is the second nominee for the Jack Nicklaus Award. Despite falling short of a win in a few events, he recorded two victories with a 69.914 scoring average, placing him sixth in the field. Out of 19 starts, the Irishman missed the cut in one event and recorded seven top-ten finishes.
Xander Schauffele is the final nominee for Player of the Year. In his 22 starts this season, he won the 2024 Open Championship, adding to his earlier victory at the PGA Championship – his first major title. Without missing a single cut, he ranked second in the field with a scoring average of 69.137.
Meanwhile, Nick Dunlap is the fan-favorite nominee for Rookie of the Year. The 20-year-old won his first PGA Tour event this year at the American Express, as an amateur and went on to win the Barracuda Championship. The Alabama native is the first player in history to win as an amateur and as a professional in the same season.
